Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect what Camplore needs to work: your account, the places, trips and check-ins you save, and basic usage and crash data.
- Your saved sites, trips and check-ins are private by default. Nobody else sees them unless you share them.
- We use your location only while you're using the app, to center the map. We don't track you in the background.
- We don't sell your data, and Camplore has no ads.
- You can export your data or delete your account from inside the app at any time.
Who we are
Camplore is an app for finding legal places to camp on public land, planning trips and keeping a camping journal. It is operated by Landon Harrell in Colorado, USA ("Camplore", "we", "us"). Questions about this policy or your data: hello@camplore.app.
What we collect
On the website (camplore.app)
- Waitlist sign-ups. Your email address, when you signed up and confirmed it, and where you came from (for example a link from a partner, or "direct"). We email you once to confirm the address; we only send launch news to addresses that have been confirmed.
- Website analytics. Pages viewed, the referring site, browser and device type, and whether you joined the waitlist. We use PostHog for this. It stores an identifier in your browser's local storage so return visits can be counted. We don't record your screen on the website.
In the app
- Account. Your email address and a password (stored securely by our authentication provider), or the name, email and profile photo shared by Sign in with Apple or Google if you use those.
- Profile. Anything you add: display name, bio, profile photo, vehicle type and unit preferences.
- Things you create. Campsites you save (including their map coordinates), tags, trips, stops, packing and grocery lists, meals, check-ins, journal entries, and the photos and videos you attach.
- Location. With your permission, your device's location while the app is open, used to center the map and suggest nearby spots. We don't collect location in the background and don't store your device's location on your profile. The places you choose to save do include their coordinates.
- Photos, camera and microphone. Only when you choose to attach a photo or video to a campsite or check-in. Photos may carry the metadata your camera adds, such as where and when they were taken.
- Usage analytics. Which screens and features are used, app version, device model and operating system, and anonymized recordings of app sessions to find where people get stuck. In those recordings, text you type, images and maps are masked, so they can't show your writing, your photos or where you are.
- Crash reports. Technical details when the app crashes or hits an error, linked to your account ID only, not your name or email.
- Notifications. A device token so we can send push notifications you've allowed, such as reminders about unfinished drafts.
- Purchases. Your subscription status and purchase history. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we never see your card details.
How we use it
- To run Camplore: sign you in, save and sync your data across devices, show the map, and provide the features you use.
- To manage subscriptions and Founding Member access.
- To send notifications you've turned on, and, if you joined the waitlist, emails about Camplore's launch and the Founding Member presale.
- To understand how Camplore is used, fix bugs and crashes, and improve the app.
- To keep Camplore secure and prevent abuse.
We don't sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or show ads.
Who we share it with
We use a small set of service providers who process data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or reorganization of Camplore, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your data.
What other people can see
- Your saved sites, trips, check-ins and journal are private by default.
- When you invite people to a trip, they can see that trip and its details.
- Your profile photo is stored at a link that anyone with the link can open. Don't use a photo you'd want kept private.
- If we add public features, such as sharing a site with the community or campsite reviews, they will be opt-in, and you'll be able to control how precisely a location is shown.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Delete your account in the app (You → Delete account). This permanently removes your profile, saved sites, trips, check-ins, journal entries and media. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription; cancel it in the App Store or Google Play so you aren't billed again.
- Export your data in the app (You → Export my data) as a file you can keep.
- Leave the waitlist by using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to hello@camplore.app.
- We keep your data while your account is active. Analytics and crash data are kept for a limited period and then deleted by our providers. Backups may take a short while longer to clear.
Your choices and rights
- You can turn off location, photo, camera, microphone and notification access at any time in your phone's settings. Camplore still works; some features won't.
- You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to stop using it for analytics, by emailing hello@camplore.app. We'll respond within 45 days.
- Depending on where you live, including Colorado and California, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live.
Children
Camplore isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls that limit each account to its own data, and providers with established security programs. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
